Reed Street Yards
The Historic Fifth Ward is located less than a mile south of downtown Milwaukee and southwest of the Historic Third Ward across the Milwaukee River. The Walker's Point neighborhood bounds the Historic Fifth Ward on the south along National Avenue. The district has proximity to Highway 794 as well as Interstate 43, which serves as the western boundary.
The site is twenty-two acres comprised of the Reed Street Yards and the former Pfister & Vogel Tannery site (now Tannery Remnants) on the northwest corner of the Historic Fifth Ward. The site is located south of the Harley Davidson Museum (across the Menomonee River), straddling the 6th Street Viaduct north of W. Florida Street and west of the Teweles Seed Apartments on S. 3rd Street.
Since the industrial revolution, the Reed Street Yards primary use was as a rail yard, which is no longer in use today. In recent years, it has only been used for truck and trailer storage in the northeast corner.
